5 out of 5 stars A Miracle Plan for a Desperate Thyroid Sufferer!   June 15, 2008
Despite being on medication for 3 months for Hashimotos hypothyroidism, I couldn't lose weight EVEN WITH diet and vigorous exercise daily. On this plan, I lost 8 pounds in 10 days. I also use the Fat Flush Plan for recipe ideas. I'm staying organic, staying healthy, and staying slim with The Fast Track and Fat Flush! Thanks Ann Louise!!

5 out of 5 stars It Works!   April 30, 2008
Did the 1-day detox (which is actually 11 days) and lost 8.5 lbs, and 4 inches! Lost 1-1/2" of my abs. It is really simple to follow, with some really good recipes. Try it, it works.

3 out of 5 stars A couple of cautions   March 4, 2008

First a warning: Don't buy her Whey Protein Powder! I've had many of these mixes, and this one is VILE!

I found this to be a pretty good experience. There were a few things in the book that I think will really help me in the future, such as the fact that drinking too much at meals dilutes your stomach acids too much. I was also horrified to read that the epidemic of obesity is partially caused by the fact that we spend our days chomping down the hormones that are given to animals to make them FAT!

I followed it through to the end, and though I didn't lose any weight since I'm already a no-sugar, meat and tons of veggies Atkins-eater, I thought it was worth doing. But man, it is EXPENSIVE!

5 out of 5 stars great Book!!   February 27, 2008
Excellent Book!! A very "do-able" detox, and wonderful recipes to incorporate for an ongoing diet. I keep this book close at hand even after I'm done with the detox. Even my husband, (who isn't into diets and detox) did the detox with me and said "we should eat this way all the time!!

3 out of 5 stars Good Learning Experience   February 16, 2008

When one of my coworkers told us she was starting a detox diet, I was mildly curious. After reading bit of the book she showed me, I grew much more interested as I began to understand the need for detoxing, and ordered my own copy so I could do the detox diet as well. I found it simultaneously fascinating to learn of the numerous benefits of certain foods, and horrifying to learn that many of my favorite foods are in fact very toxic. My husband and I both eat very healthy, natural diets, but I was astounded at how many things we eat (honey, soy, dairy, even wheat!) also have detracting bodily effects.

Though this book abounds with very good eye-opening information about chemicals, proteins and many other nutrients and their benefits to the body, it is not without a small amount of confusion and contradiction. For example, Ann Louise says to avoid honey, yet she has honey in one of her recipes in the back of the book. She also says to avoid dairy, though says to eat whey (milk protein); she does explain this later on, but most of forbidden foods are followed by very little argument.

While I was doing the 7-day prequel, I found it was just not possible to give up so many things I was used to eating. Yes, I cheated. But not terribly. I did allow myself a bit of dark chocolate because I was dieting around Valentine's Day and it's simply one thing I can't live without. We could easily give up one or even a couple of these foods for 11 days. But not ALL of them at once; that's just unreasonable. My husband, who is lactose-intolerant and depends on soy, was incredulous that soy is restricted. Ann Louise stresses the dangers of a low-carb diet, yet she lists gluten as a huge detox detractor, which is in so many foods, even soups; I never dreamed how many foods contain gluten until I shopped and saw how many are "gluten-free". I thought, how am I supposed to get carbs? In desperation I turned to potatoes, only to read on that they are her list of most pesticide-laden fruits and vegetables. So you need to buy organic food.

The day I did my Fast, I was not one of those people who feels wonderful bursts of energy and cleans their whole house and never feels hungry. Though I dutifully followed her sample schedule of drinking water or Miracle Juice every hour, I was hungry most of the day and had no energy, and all I could think about was the food I couldn't have. Around the times I would normally eat (breakfast, lunchtime, dinner), my stomach actually rumbled with physical hunger. Adding to that, the entire 11 days I had to pee almost every hour from all the water, which got very tiresome. But it got better. The morning after the fast, I actually woke up feeling more energized, cleaner, and just "happy".

A word of CAUTION: Nutmeg, an ingredient in the "Miracle Juice" is a hallucinogen in high doses, and taken excessively can even be lethal. Symptoms said my husband had a reaction to the nutmeg (you only use 1/4 tsp, about the amount in a batch of cookies, but you don't eat a whole batch of cookies the same day!). If you happen to be sensitive to a lot of drugs or random substances, think twice about doing this program.

To quote Ann Louise's client Mercedes in the book, "If I can't have dessert a few times a month and stress about whether every bite is organic, I'll go nuts. Life isn't worth living if you're that careful." Try telling a dessert chef (me) not to eat chocolate for 11 days? Better idea to walk the plank into shark-infested waters then face my reaction. My husband and I will definitely be better about shopping organically from now on, and we might do the Fast Track again at most once a year after Christmas holidays, but we're done stressing about each ingredient on every label. If you're the kind of person who thinks ignorance is bliss, don't read this book; it'll depress you. If, on the other hand, "knowledge is power" is your motto, then this book a great weapon "in today's toxic world".
